Dean McDowell was born, lives and works in Northern Ireland. Graduating with honours in both fine art and graphic design, he worked within the graphics industry for several years before solely concentrating on fine art.

Through this medium, he is intrinsically drawn to the beauty within sorrow, this can be seen in his surreal portrait of people. Initially one is drawn to the dark emotional subject matter and the circumstances of the image, and finally asked to question not only their perspective, but the artist’s final intent.

Using traditional painting techniques, coupled with his knowledge of illustration, he plays with the atmosphere of each painting, never deciding what the mood will be until the final brush stroke.

McDowell has exhibited extensively with his work shown, on display and held in private and public collections throughout the UK, Europe, Australia and America.
